JUNIOR DUCKS DEMIN SIGNS WITH WENATCHEE WILD
Anaheim Jr. Ducks Midget 16U defenseman Slava Demin has signed to play for the Wenatchee Wild of the Junior A British Columbia Hockey League (BCHL) next season, according to the team’s official website. Demin is considered one of the top 48 2000 birth year players, and was invited to participate in USA Hockey’s National Team Development Evaluation Camp in Plymouth, Michigan, on March 18-22. “I am excited to announce I will be playing for the Wenatchee Wild in the BCHL next season,” Demin said per the Wild’s website. “A huge thanks to my family and friends for helping me along the way.” The 6-foot-1, 185-pound Demin helped the Jr. Ducks 16U AAA-1 team win a CAHA State title for the second season in a row. Last season, Demin helped anchor a Jr. Ducks Bantam AAA team that won CAHA and Pacific District championships en route to reaching the USA Hockey Youth Nationals. This season, Demin played primarily against and with ’99 birth years, picking up 15 points, including five goals, in 32 games. Eleven of those points came during 25 Tier 1 Elite League games. The Jr. Ducks finished tied with fourth most points in the 26-team elite league. Demin, who attends Los Alamitos High School, was the first Jr. Ducks player ever to be invited to the USNTDP camp as it is currently configured. The camp played a key role in selecting next season’s U17 national team. “At first I was surprised, but this is a great honor and a great opportunity,” Demin said. “It’s special to be the only player from California this year to be invited. It’s an opportunity for me to show how far California hockey and the Jr. Ducks have come.” Demin also participated in a U15 USA Hockey Select camp last summer and a U14 regional camp in Colorado Springs the summer before. Jr. Ducks Director of Player Personnel Alex Kim, who coached Demin this past season, said the defenseman has a diverse and effective skill set. “Slava skates very well and has very good hands,” Kim said. “Defensively, he has a very good stick. His upside is big."

JR DUCKS UDRIS PLAYING IN U18 WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS
Anaheim Jr. Ducks defenseman Regnars Udris is representing his native Latvia in the IIHF U18 World Championships at Grand Forks, N.D., this month. The 6-foot, 161-pound Udris played in all four of Latvia’s preliminary round games, registering three shots. His country went 0-4 in prelims, twice losing in overtime.  The tournament features the top U18 players in the world, and its alumni list reads like a who’s who of the NHL. The defensively responsible Udris was a cumulative minus-4 on a Latvia team that was outscored by a cumulative 20 goals in its four preliminary games.  Udris was the only 1999 birth year player on the highly successful Jr. Ducks Midget 18U AAA team this past season. The 18U team won CAHA playoff and regular-season titles as well as the USA Hockey Pacific District championship en route to advancing to Nationals at San Jose earlier this month.  Udris played in 29 Tier 1 Elite Hockey League games and netted a game-winning goal against the San Jose Jr. Sharks in mid-January. He added another goal while helping anchor a Jr. Ducks defense that allowed just 33 goals in 21 CAHA regular-season games. He also took just one penalty all season.

ANAHEIM DUCKS LEARN TO PLAY PROGRAM
The Anaheim Ducks Learn to Play Program presented by Bauer is back, giving all first-time hockey players the chance to get on the rink (ice or inline) in full hockey equipment for FREE!  Participants receive instruction from The Rinks coaching staff on how to skate properly while implementing some of the basic skills in hockey such as passing, shooting, and stick handling.

The Learn to Play Program is a (4) four week session geared toward participants 10 years old and younger (due to equipment sizes). Each participant is provided with an equipment bag, helmet, shin guards, hockey pants, elbow pads, shoulder pads, gloves, stick and a jersey, which they get to keep during the duration of the session, giving them the opportunity to practice what they have learned between each session. Skate rentals are provided for free at each rink as well. The use of full hockey equipment allows participants to get the feel of skating in full hockey gear, allowing them to experience the sport as a whole without taking on the financial commitment of purchasing all the equipment.

Participants who complete the Learn to Play program and continue on to a paid program within The Rinks will receive a FREE, complete set of Mission/Bauer equipment to keep courtesy of Ryan Getzlaf and Corey Perry.
